内容記述 | A short history of leaf making is given in the introduction. This is followed by a description of the two styles of gilding either using whole leaves (kinpaku) or leaf that has been ground into powder (kinpun). These are important in that traditionally Hikone butsudan were predominantly gold. Tools and materials are considered next. With the aid of drawings and photos, the leaf making process is discussed in terms of both how the leaf itself and how the papers used for interleafing are made. Some characteristics of gold powder are discussed but please refer to the section on makie for a more comprehensive explanation. Finally, techniques of both leafing and powdering are described. Some of the problems encountered by the artisans are looked at, along with their attitudes towards modernisation. Please refer to the table of contents at the beginning of this section for more details. |
